Special assignments track work that doesn’t fit into a regular shift — training programs, committee membership, temporary projects, QA work, etc.

Two parts

Categories

Created by admins. Examples: “Training”, “QA”, “Committee”. Each category can have a color.

Assignments

One per (user + project + date range). Each one references a category and has:
  • Title
  • Optional description
  • Start date, optional end date
  • Optional hours-per-week estimate

What you can do

  • All users can see special assignments assigned to them (and any that their role allows them to see).
  • Admins / Supervisors can create categories, assign people, and see everyone’s assignments.

Good examples

  • “Trainer: Console 3” (Training, 3 months, 5 hrs/wk) — you’re training a new dispatcher; you’ll need 5 hours per week for overlap shifts.
  • “Schedule committee” (Committee, ongoing) — you’re part of the group that reviews coverage plans each quarter.
  • “Dispatch audit” (QA, 2 weeks) — you’re auditing call recordings for quality.
Special assignments are informational — they don’t automatically block you from shifts or reduce your availability. Use them to communicate and plan.
